Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)

The WSET is an internationally recognized wine education program offering courses and certifications ranging from beginner to expert. Below you will find a brief description of each course.

The WSET Level II Certification Course (Formerly the Intermediate class) is suitable for beginners, and those with some experience with wine. It is taught over 5 classes, with an exam in week 6. This course helps develop fundamental tasting and assessment skills, and provides a good overview of the main wine grapes and regions. There is not a prerequisite course requirement.

The WSET Level III Certification Course (Formerly the Advanced course) is more demanding. It provides an overview of the wines and spirits from around the world. We spend a great deal. Emphasis is given to tasting assessment skills. You will learn to write tasting notes on 8-10 wines each class. The course is taught over 10 weeks, with an exam week 11. There is no prerequisite course, but the Intermediate is strongly suggested if you are not in the wine industry.

The WSET Level IV Diploma Certification Course is the highest certification offered by the WSET. The Diploma is comprised of 6 Units, which can take 2-3 years to complete. Please note, you must have passed the Advanced level 3 to register for this program. In addition, you must take Unit # 2, Wine Production, before taking any other Unit. After completing Unit # 2, you can take the courses in any order you wish.

  • Unit # 2, Wine Production, must be taken first.
  • Unit # 1 - The Global Business of Wine & Spirits
  • Unit # 3 – The Light Wines of the World
  • Unit # 4 – Spirits
  • Unit # 5 – Sparkling Wines
  • Unit # 6 – Fortified Wines. Contact us for a detailed course description.
