Practical Sommelier Course

8 classes plus exam • $899; after January 16: $999

Designed for anyone looking for the practical skills needed to become a Sommelier. You will learn how and to assess, describe, and identify wines blind. You will learn the key elements of wine service such decanting wine, sparkling wine service, fortified wine service, and selection of glassware. You will learn the secrets of pairing food and wine. You will learn how to buy and select wine, store wine, and organize a cellar. You will learn how to build a wine program that is competitive, profitable, and exciting. Each class will include interactive exercises involving tasting and service.

The course ends on week # 9 with a 2 hour exam composed of three parts taken over 2 hours:

  • 75 questions - multiple choice (1 hour)
  • 6 wine tasted blind (30 minutes)
  • A practical service test assessing your sommelier skills (30 minutes)

The Practical Sommelier course is taught by an exceptional lineup of instructors, featuring a Master Sommelier, a Master of Wine, and two Certified Wine Educators.

Note: this course does not offer a guarantee of employment in the hospitality industry. The instructors, however, will write a letter of recommendation for all students passing the final exam.

The course begins Monday, February 20 from 6:30-9:30pm:
February 20, 27, March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9, 2012; Exam on April 16, 2012.
